Ducklehead Profile: Ruby

Ruby looks for a new home

Name: Ruby

Breed: Pekin

Sex: Male

Born: Unknown. Adopted 01/18/2014, Ruby Tuesday, Indiana, PA

Ruby was our first duck, and patriarch of the ranch.   On January 18, 2014 he mysteriously appeared on the porch of the Ruby Tuesday restaurant in Indiana, PA.   We soon became enamored with him, and decided to give him a home and call him Ruby.

For a few weeks, until we could build a safe enclosure for him, he lived in the house.  Although he liked his new home, it soon became clear that he was lonely, and needed some ducky companionship.

We placed an ad on Craigslist, and soon found Pearl. To this day, she is his favorite girl and the two are inseparable.

As the flock has grown, Ruby has shown himself to be the consummate gentlemanduck.   When feeding time comes, he lets the girls and babies eat first while watching over them.  Drakes can often be dangerous to new ducklings, but not Ruby. He and Pearl watch over them like doting parents (whether or not they are their own offspring).
